Short version: I collect as little as I can, I do not sell anything to anybody, and there are no tracking cookies on this site.

Who I am

I'm Dean Frank Reynolds. I work as a sole trader, based in Newcastle and working across the North East and beyond. For data protection purposes I'm the data controller for this website.

You can reach me at dean@deanfrankreynolds.co.uk. I don't take phone calls, because I'm profoundly deaf, so email or a video call with captions is the way.

What I collect, and why

Three things, and that's genuinely all of it.

If you email me

I get whatever you put in the message: your name, your email address, your organisation, and whatever you tell me about your building or your website. I use it to answer you and, if we end up working together, to do the work.

The lawful basis is legitimate interests, or the steps leading to a contract if you're asking me to quote for something.

If you subscribe

The signup form takes your email address and nothing else. It's stored by Ghost, the software this site runs on, in a database on a server I control. I use it to send you posts. The lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link on anything I send, or by emailing me.

Analytics

I count page views so I know which pages are worth keeping. That records the page you looked at, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device and browser you used. It does not record your name, your email address, or anything that identifies you personally, and I can't tie a page view to a person.

The lawful basis is legitimate interests: I need to know whether the site works.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies when you read it. I checked rather than assumed.

Two things do store something in your browser. Your browser remembers your own display preferences for this site, which never leaves your device and which I never see. And if you sign in as a subscriber, Ghost sets a cookie to keep you signed in, because that is the only way signing in can work.

Who else sees it

As few people as I could manage.

• My server host. The site and its database run on a server I rent from Hetzner, in Nuremberg, Germany. Everything above is stored there.
• Tinybird. The page view counts go to Tinybird, who process them on my behalf.
• jsDelivr. Two small scripts on this site, the subscribe box and the search box, are served from the jsDelivr network. Loading them means jsDelivr sees your IP address, as any website you visit does.

That's the complete list. There is no advertising network on this site, no social media tracking, no Google Analytics, and nothing here is sold or shared for marketing.

How long I keep it

• Subscribers: until you unsubscribe. Then your record is deleted.
• Enquiries that go nowhere: a year, in case you come back.
• Clients: for the work, and then six years afterwards, because that's how long I'm required to keep business records.
• Analytics: rolling, and it was never linked to you anyway.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask me for a copy of what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, ask me to delete it, object to how I'm using it, or ask for it in a portable format. You can also withdraw consent to emails at any time.

Email me and I'll do it. I won't ask why, and I'll come back to you within a month, which is the legal limit and usually far longer than it actually takes.

If you're not happy with how I've handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. I would rather you told me first so I can fix it, but it's your right either way.

Reports and confidentiality

If I audit your building or your website, the report is about your organisation, not about individuals. Where I describe a disabled person's experience it's through a persona, not a real named person, unless you and they have specifically agreed otherwise.

The report belongs to the organisation it's about, including when somebody else commissioned and paid for it. That's a contract term rather than a promise, and it's on the pricing page too.

I don't publish client names, photographs of client premises, or findings without written permission. If you see something on this site that's about your organisation and you'd rather it wasn't, email me and it comes down.

Changes

If this notice changes I'll update the date at the top. I won't quietly rewrite it.
